Biocompatibility of Kirschner wire made by KAIST Animal Experiment ¥°






Abstract
In Korea, the metallic implantation material had to be supplied through import channel with many problems. KAIST succeeded to make AISI 316 LVM Stainless Steel within the criteria of ASTM. For the preliminary report before application to human, the biocomp¡þatibility of the Kirschner wire made by KAIST was examined and compared with the Zimmer Kirschner wire through animal experiment. The result was as follws,
1. Tissue reaction was minimal to moderate.
2. Corrosion was negligible, and it made no definite difference to Zimmer Kirschner wire
3. The biocompatibility was satisfactory, and conclusion was that it is applicable to human being
